The kinds of written test, test contents and response methods are presented here. This is for foreign international students who are feeling uneasy towards a Japanese written test and don’t know how to start preparation. And, it is for those who are wondering what kind of questions are in it and the difficulty.

Kinds of aptitude test
The kinds of aptitude test are divided into two types: “A web test” which is an ability test that you can take at home and “An aptitude test” which includes a personality test that you take at a company. Regarding the aptitude test, there are various forms such as paper and web. Many job hunting students have difficulties in the ability tests mentioned below, especially the mathematical ones categorized as counting and nonverbal. Those are uniquely made including inversions, logic and counting that you can see in the chart depending on its kind.

Test contents
The contents are roughly divided into two sections, the ability test and the personality test. You may find a large number of questions in most ability tests, and you must answer each question within 1 minute or so. And, the personal tests are often made of more than 300 questions which you must complete in approximately 40 minutes. You must select either YES or NO, or select one out of 4 answers, such as “close to A”, ”closer to A than B”, ”close to B, closer to B than A”. You should answer according to your personality. The result is evaluated based on the aspects of behavior motivation, emotions, sociability, prudence, sympathy, social relations, etc.
How to Succeed
Non-verbal testing
1 Four basic arithmetic operations should not be neglected
Mostly you are not allowed to use an electric calculator, and non-verbal testing includes addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, these should not be neglected. Since there are many questions in a written test, speed and accuracy are important.
2 Review calculation formula
The following is the necessary formula for non-verbal questions. You’d better study from an early stage since there might be formulas that some foreign international students have not learned
Mathematical
Four basic arithmetic
Involution calculation
comparison
Linear equation
Quadratic equation
Cubic equation
Division
Inequality/sign of inequality
Graph
3 Study heavily the section for standard questions.
You should effectively work on the questions frequently as so those questions will become your favorites and you can get points without fail.
Language
1Increase vocabulary power
The basis for language ability is vocabulary power. First, it is important for you to be interested in vocabulary, and you should read a lot of articles in newspapers, magazines and books. When you come across a word you don’t know, you should check it immediately. This habit directly leads to strengthening your vocabulary power by learning the use of words and synonyms which are often given in language test questions.
2 Learn grammar
In grammar questions of language, you will be asked about use of postpositional particles and auxiliary verbs. Some of postpositional particles and auxiliary verbs are often included in the test, and you should make a list of those to remember.
3 Improve ability for reading comprehension
At the same as vocabulary power, it is important to read a lot of sentences. In the writing of newspaper columns, editorials and books, you can clearly catch the gist; therefore, it is good practice to understand it logically. In this, you should catch the point of each paragraph and try to pay attention to the directives and conjunctions so that you can easily comprehend them.
Tips to break through
1 Use the method of elimination
Clearly wrong selections are included in many questions. Even though you don’t know the right answer, you should use the method of elimination and get closer to the right answer.
2 Consider the allocation of time
Many students mention that there was not enough time and that they didn’t prepare enough. It is important to judge whether you can solve the question quickly and decide to leave it if you feel it is impossible.
3Get used to the pattern of questions.
In many cases, the question pattern is set. Because of this, it is good that you can practice repeatedly by doing the questions given in the past.
